Vertical Elevators for Wheelchairs

The vertical lifts are one of the options available to provide accessibility to people moving in wheelchairs when saving stairs (MONTASCALE PER ANZIANI).

It is important to indicate that for people who move in a wheelchair a simple step can be a barrier practically insurmountable, the same happens with numerous ramps that have been built with slopes impossible to save or with insufficient dimensions for a wheelchair.

A vertical elevator allows to save from small unevenness of only two or three steps to uneven floors of several floors.

In this way, the elevators with vertical displacement are an ideal solution both to save the access stairs to communities of neighbors or businesses, as well as to allow access to the different floors of a detached house.

Types of vertical lifts

Currently in the market we can find mainly two types of vertical lifts.

On the one hand we have vertical lifts to save heights of up to three meters or also known as vertical short-haul elevators and on the other lifts for single-family homes or single- family lifts with reduced speed.

The vertical short-distance lifter is ideal to save access stairs that we can find in all types of buildings and shops, it is also a very used option to save the height of a plant, as long as the total route does not exceed the three meters.

This type of elevator is characterized by having a semicabina or open cabin, which has half-height protections or articulated arms depending on the model.

The operation of this type of elevator is very simple and intuitive, since it has a raise button and a down button, in addition to the corresponding emergency stop button and a key to activate or deactivate it.

Indicate that for its operation and for security measures, it is necessary to keep the corresponding button pressed until reaching the plant, where the elevator will stop automatically.

As for the single-family elevators, indicate that they can reach heights of up to 15 meters, which corresponds to five or six floors.

Aesthetically they are very similar to the elevators that we can see in neighboring communities, hotels, etc., although their price, both installation and subsequent maintenance and maintenance is significantly lower, in addition to having requirements for minor auxiliary works.

The operation of the same is very similar to that of conventional lifts with the difference that there are two modes depending on whether or not they have automatic doors in the cabin.

In the case of not equipping automatic doors in the cabin, these are replaced by a photoelectric barrier, in addition the operation will be present man, or what is the same, it will be necessary to keep the floor button to which we want to go stopping automatically an once reached.

If the lift has automatic doors in the cabin, the operation is like that of conventional elevators, that is, pressing the button for one or two seconds the elevator would move to reach the selected plant stopping once reached.

Advantages of vertical elevators

Among the main advantages of a vertical elevator we can highlight the following:

  • Simple and intuitive operation to guarantee maximum autonomy to all types of users.
  • Possibility of custom manufacturing for greater adaptation to all types of spaces.
  • Low energy consumption, consumption is between 1 and 2.2 KW in most models.
  • Comfort and greater versatility of use than some stair climbers .
  • Under maintenance, some vertical short-haul elevators do not necessarily have to have a maintenance contract.
  • Models suitable for outdoor installation.
